I don't believe that you actually spend that time actually working. Nobody who works on a computer (especially from home) works more than two hours a day.

Hi Lance - great list of Twitter accounts and thank you for including our two accounts. The Sainsbury's @JSainsbury account is run by the corporate affairs team so can also be used as a point of contact for media requests.

Not sure how official the hsbc_com account is. I certainly do not think it is run out of the UK (or running at all by the looks of it). Some official ones that I am aware of at HSBC are

Thanks for the feedback Spikesterb.

Brett - I wouldn't expect all of the companies in the FTSE 100 to be on Twitter because it's just not going to be a suitable channel for all of them. But what is surprising is the uncoordinated and disjointed approach taken by some of the brands listed here. Can you imagine any FTSE 100 company being happy for its staff to randomly engage with the offline media without any sort of strategy or policy? Of course not, but that's exactly what's happening in social media.

Great post. Isn't it incredible how many Fortune 100 companies aren't on Twitter? Maybe we need some sort of social innovation scorecard...

No - state sponsorship isn't the solution. It would be a sticking plaster at best. The old publishing models, built for print, no longer work. The future has to be based on smaller, leaner news organisations, built for the internet. We need to get used to the fact the national newspapers as they exist today in the UK may not exist within a decade.
